Protecting National "Knowledge Treasure": DeAir Installs Ceiling Dehumidifier System at National Assembly Library
02/02/2026
Mission to Protect Cultural Heritage & National Knowledge
The National Assembly Library is not only a workplace and research center for Delegates but also the "heart" storing millions of historical documents, law codes, and precious records of the country. Preserving these paper documents intact against the ravages of time and the hot, humid tropical climate is a critical political task.
Recently, DeAir was honored to be selected as the provider of specialized humidity treatment solutions for this project. The challenge was extremely demanding: "How to strictly control humidity in a solemn, narrow architectural space located right above an underground water tank without causing noise and without disrupting the interior design?".
The answer lies in the heat-pump dehumidifier line, specifically the custom-designed DeAir.RE-90CL ceiling-mounted version.
1. [Video] A Day of Installation at the National Assembly Library
Before going into technical analysis, we invite you to watch the actual video recording the process of the DeAir team transporting and installing equipment in this special space:
Information from the site:
Cause of humidity: The library area is located directly above an underground water tank. Over time, water vapor rises, causing mold and threatening documents.
Chosen solution: Since the rooms have small areas and are packed with bookshelves, there is no space for floor-standing industrial dehumidifiers -> Ceiling-mounted machines are the only optimal choice for space saving.
2. Preservation Science: Why Do Libraries Need Strict Humidity Control?
Paper is a cellulose-based material, extremely sensitive to water. According to the international standard ISO 11799:2015 (Document storage requirements for archives and libraries), the storage environment must ensure:
Temperature: 18°C - 22°C (fluctuation not exceeding ±1°C).
Relative Humidity (RH): 45% - 55% (fluctuation not exceeding ±5%).
Additionally, according to recommendations from ASHRAE (Chapter 23 - Museums, Galleries, Archives, and Libraries), maintaining stable humidity is much more critical than controlling temperature to prevent mechanical degradation of paper.
3 "KILLERS" OF BOOKS AT HIGH HUMIDITY (>65%)
🍄
Mold
Spores germinate after 48h, eroding paper and causing allergies for readers.
💧
Hydrolysis
Breaks Cellulose bonds, making paper brittle, yellowed, and crumbling.
🐛
Insects
Humid environments attract termites, booklice, and silverfish attacking book covers.
3. 3 Difficult Problems at This Special Project
Upon surveying the National Assembly Library, the DeAir technical team identified 3 major challenges:
"Space is at a premium": The rooms are filled with Mobile Shelves. Aisles are very narrow, with absolutely no room to place standard floor-standing industrial dehumidifiers.
Aesthetic & Noise Requirements: This is the workplace of high-ranking Delegates. Machinery must not be exposed, ruining aesthetics, and especially Noise must be extremely low (< 45dB) to ensure concentration.
Complex Ceiling Infrastructure: Above the false ceiling is a tangled web of M&E systems (AC ducts, Firefighting, Low voltage...). The ceiling height available for installation is very limited.
The machine features a Slim design, using advanced Heat-pump technology to be concealed above the gypsum ceiling.
Key Technical Features:
"Invisible" Design: The entire machine body is hidden above the false ceiling. Only the Grills and Access Panel are exposed, painted to match the ceiling, ensuring absolute aesthetics.
Quiet Heat-pump Technology: Using a heat-pump dehumidifier helps save energy and operate more quietly compared to old compressor types. The machine is also wrapped with thick Superlon insulation for soundproofing.
Integrated Condensate Pump: Since it is ceiling-mounted, natural drainage is impossible. The machine integrates a high-pressure pump to easily push wastewater up and out.
Wired Controller: The control screen is wired down to the wall, helping library staff easily monitor and set humidity without climbing up to the ceiling.
5. Installation Process: Precise to the Millimeter
Construction in an operating building requires precision, tidiness, and absolute safety. Here are the deployment steps of the DeAir team:
Step 1: Hanging the machine. Suspension points are carefully calculated for load bearing.
Step 1: Survey & Positioning: Using Lasers to determine the hanging position to avoid existing fire pipes and concrete beams.
Step 2: Hanging & Duct Connection: The machine is fixed with vibration-damping threaded rods. Insulated flexible ducts are connected to lead dry air to required points in the room.
Step 3: Electrical & Control Connection: The electrical system runs in safe conduits. The control panel is recessed into the wall at a convenient location.
Finishing step: Ceiling is closed beautifully, technician sets standard humidity on the control panel.
6. FAQ About Library Dehumidifiers
Is a ceiling dehumidifier noisier than a floor-standing industrial dehumidifier?
No, it is even quieter. Because the machine body (containing the noisy compressor) is hidden above the gypsum ceiling - which acts as a natural soundproofing layer. Moreover, the DeAir.RE-90CL series is equipped with specialized sound-absorbing materials, ensuring much lower noise levels compared to floor-standing machines blowing air directly.
How to perform maintenance when the machine is in the ceiling?
There is always an Access Panel (size about 600x600mm or larger) right below the installation location. Technicians just need to open the panel cover to access for filter cleaning and machine inspection easily without cutting the ceiling.
What capacities of ceiling heat-pump dehumidifiers does DeAir offer?
DeAir provides a very wide capacity range for ceiling series, from 26 Liters/day (for bedrooms/apartments) to 480 Liters/day (for halls/large warehouses). Depending on the area and moisture load, we will advise on the most suitable model.
Conclusion: Protecting the treasure of knowledge at the National Assembly Library is DeAir's pride. This project affirms our capability to provide "Tailor-made" (Customization) technical solutions for every terrain and the most stringent requirements.
